Delaware becomes 18th state to decriminalize marijuana (Polly Mosendz, Newsweek, June 19) On Friday, Delaware decriminalized the private use of marijuana. People in Delaware will be able to possess up to an ounce of marijuana when the new laws go into effect in six months.

Israel, Canada want a piece of New York’s medical marijuana (Debra Borchardt, Forbes, June 18) Companies from other countries want in on the growing marijuana market in the United States. For example, Tikun Olam, the only large-scale industrial producer of cannabis in Israel, has announced a partnership with Compassionate Care Center of New York.

You can bring marijuana into this year’s U.S. Open (Brian Floyd, SB Nation, June 17) Fans attending the U.S. Open in Tacoma, Washington, will be allowed to posses marijuana on the grounds at Chambers Bay. However, it is illegal to consume marijuana in public.

Concern grows over unregulated pesticide use among marijuana growers (Luke Runyon, NPR, June 17) The growing marijuana industry is facing a pesticide problem. Many growers use chemicals to control bugs and mold.

Workers can be fired for marijuana use, Colorado court rules (Jack Healy, The New York Times, June 15) The Colorado Supreme Court unanimously concluded smoking marijuana off the job and away from work can still get an employee in the state fired. The case came after Dish Network employee and medical marijuana user Brandon Coats was fired after testing positive for marijuana in 2010.
