NAME: Sean Logan, Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation Fellow

SCHOOL: Arizona State University, senior

BEFORE NEWS21: In the past few years, I’ve worked at ASU’s nationally recognized student news publication, The State Press, as a multimedia reporter, producer and editor. Last year, I contributed reporting, video and photography to “Hooked: Tracking Heroin’s Hold on Arizona,” a 30-minute documentary which was broadcast on all major Arizona commercial television and radio stations. I also worked at Arizona Highways Magazine as a multimedia intern in 2013.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON?: I’m exploring medical marijuana use among veterans in the military and how they face a particularly complex situation – many of them take advantage of federal assistance through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Yet they often have challenges navigating access to medical marijuana because it’s illegal federally. I’m also looking into how the medical marijuana industry in Arizona has affected drug trafficking and activity near the Mexican border.

FUN FACT: I can do a backflip on a bicycle and eat way more lobster than I can afford.
