NAME: Kathryn Boyd-Batstone

SCHOOL: University of Oregon, 2015 graduate

BEFORE NEWS21: I have interned at a video production house in Seattle called Vignette Creative, the San Francisco Chronicle and Oregon Public Broadcasting. My passion lies in reporting on stories that focus on humanizing environmental research in a visual form.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON? I am working on documenting a farmer who lives on Vashon Island, Washington, as he transitions from being an off-the-grid grower to a government-recognized, licensed marijuana cultivator.

FUN FACT: I come from a very musical family, so I grew up learning how to play different instruments, the most unique being the handbell. Until college, I played in a handbell choir group of five people, and we even performed for President Barack Obama at United Church of Christ’s 50th anniversary General Synod in Hartford, Connecticut, in 2007.
